1. Scope
This Privacy Policy explains how Jacob Ramilo, an Australian sole trader based in
Kellyville Ridge, New South Wales (trading as "ShopBud," "we," "our," or "us"), handles
information when you use the ShopBud iOS application (the "App"), this website, or contact
us. It also explains the choices available to you.
2. Information We Handle
Account and authentication information
- Guest accounts: The App creates an anonymous Firebase account and associated user identifier so you can use core features without providing a name or email address.
- Apple or Google sign-in: If you choose to sign in or upgrade a guest account, we receive the account identifier and any name, email address, or profile image that the provider makes available according to your settings. ShopBud does not receive your Apple or Google password.
Shopping content and features
- Shopping data: Lists, product names, notes, quantities, prices, budgets, barcodes, categories, completion status, and list-sharing details.
- Scans and AI processing: Receipt images or PDFs are sent to Google Firebase AI Logic for product and price extraction. Shelf-tag text is read on your device, then the extracted text and barcode may be sent to Firebase AI Logic. Product names may also be sent for matching, categorisation, or smart sorting. Receipt files are not saved in ShopBud's shopping-list database.
- Shared lists: A person with a valid list code can join that list. List content and changes are then visible to its owner and participating users.
- Voice entry: If you enable voice entry, audio and transcripts are handled through Apple's speech-recognition services. ShopBud uses the resulting text to add products and does not save the audio in its database.
- Feedback: Feedback you submit, its date, votes, and your account identifier. Approved feedback may be displayed to other App users.
Subscription, device, and technical information
- Subscriptions: Apple processes payments. Qonversion processes purchase history, transaction and entitlement status, a Qonversion user identifier, and related subscription information so we can offer and restore premium access. We do not receive your full payment-card details.
- Technical information: Our providers may process IP address, device identifier, device model, operating-system and App versions, locale, country, time zone, and service logs to operate, secure, and troubleshoot their services.
- Local data: App preferences, onboarding status, free-scan usage, pending notifications, and an offline cache of shopping data are stored on your device.
- Website data: Cloudflare hosts this website and may process standard request logs, such as IP address, browser type, requested page, and request time. This website does not itself use advertising cookies or tracking scripts.
3. Device Permissions
The App requests access only when a related feature needs it:
- Camera and photos/files: To scan or import shelf tags and receipts.
- Microphone and speech recognition: To turn voice input into product names.
- Notifications: To deliver reminders you choose to enable, including an optional trial-ending reminder.
You can change permissions in iOS Settings. Disabling a permission may prevent the related feature from working.
4. How We Use Information
- Provide authentication, cloud sync, offline access, shared lists, scanning, AI-assisted features, subscriptions, and support.
- Process and restore purchases and determine premium access.
- Maintain security, prevent abuse, troubleshoot errors, and protect the App and its users.
- Respond to requests and evaluate feedback.
- Comply with law and enforce our Terms.
We do not use your information for advertising or marketing communications.
5. When Information Is Disclosed
We do not sell your personal information. We disclose information only as described here:
- Google Firebase: Authentication, cloud database, App Check, and AI processing. Firebase Authentication may process data in the United States, while other Firebase services may use global infrastructure. See Firebase Privacy and Security.
- Apple and Google: Authentication when you choose the relevant sign-in provider; Apple also processes App Store purchases, refunds, and device services such as speech recognition and notifications.
- Qonversion: Subscription management, purchase validation, and entitlement status. We have not enabled Qonversion advertising or attribution integrations. See Qonversion's Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare: Website hosting, delivery, security, and request logs. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
- Other users: Content in a shared shopping list is disclosed to that list's participants. Approved feedback may be visible to App users.
- Legal and safety reasons: When reasonably necessary to comply with law or legal process, enforce our agreements, or protect rights, safety, and security.
- Business transfer: In connection with a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganisation, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate safeguards.
6. Legal Bases and International Processing
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we process information to perform our contract
with you, pursue legitimate interests such as security and service improvement, comply with
legal obligations, and rely on consent where requested. Providers may process information
outside your country, including in the United States and United Kingdom, under safeguards
available under applicable law.
7. Retention and Deletion
We keep account and shopping data while your account is active and as needed to provide the
App. You can delete your account and shopping lists in Settings → Account →
Delete Account; ShopBud initiates deletion immediately. Information may remain for
a limited time in provider backups or security logs, or where retention is required by law.
Those providers control their backup and log schedules. We retain support messages only while
reasonably needed to respond, maintain support records, resolve disputes, or comply with law.
Subscription transaction records remain with Apple and may be retained by Qonversion under
their respective policies. Deleting the App does not by itself delete cloud data, and deleting
your ShopBud account does not cancel an App Store subscription.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards. Information sent to Firebase is
encrypted in transit, and supported Firebase services encrypt it at rest. Shopping data is
not end-to-end encrypted, and no storage or transmission method is completely secure.
9. Your Choices and Rights
You can edit shopping data in the App, manage permissions in iOS Settings, manage your
subscription through your Apple Account, and delete your ShopBud account in the App.
Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to request access, correction,
deletion, restriction, objection, or portability, or to withdraw consent and complain to
a privacy regulator. To make a request, email
contact@shopbud.app. We may need to verify your
identity before completing it. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a
privacy right.
10. Privacy Complaints
Send a written privacy complaint to contact@shopbud.app
with enough detail for us to investigate. We will acknowledge and investigate the complaint
and aim to respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you may contact the privacy or
data-protection regulator where you live. In Australia, you may contact the
Office of the Australian
Information Commissioner.
11. Children's Privacy
ShopBud is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal
information. If you believe a child under 13 has provided information, contact us so we can
investigate and delete it where required.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy as the App or legal requirements change. We will post the revised
Policy and update the date above. If a change materially affects your rights, we will provide
additional notice where required.
